Fire Damage Repair to Listed Dwelling

Marston

2020-21

In mid-2020 an electrical fire severely damaged this Timber Frame Grade II Listed Dwelling.  The existing thatch roof was destroyed along with significant damage to the timber frame and water damage to the rest of the building from the fire service.

Works included reinstatement of the property as part of an insurance claim.  The owners of the property also desired some alterations and a small rear extension to  improve  the layout of the dwelling.

Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent were sought for the repairs and improvements, and tenders for both reinstatement and alteration works were obtained from Contractors.

The proposal reinstated the thatch roof coverings to the front, to the original building.  Hand made plain clay tiles were provided to the extension.  The extension increased the floor area to the rear, improving the size of the master bedroom and allowing the relocation of the Kitchen; new oak frame direct glazing was also provided to increase the light into the building and to take advantage of the views over the neighbouring fields.
