This historical listed boundary wall located in the Church Yard collapsed in December 2022. As was common at the time of construction the wall was constructed with a rubble / earth infill with, in this case, a brick outer leaf on one side and stone on the other. Although the wall was wide, there was little to tie the two leafs together. The freezing temperatures, followed by a quick thaw and coupled with the condition of the wall caused it to collapse.

Due to the inherent weaknesses in the original design a modern design strategy was taken which included concrete foundations, concrete block core faced with brick on one side and stone on the other. Movement joints were also incorporated. The height of the wall was reduced slightly and because of this, and the non-traditional construction it was necessary to submit an application for listed Building Consent, which has now been granted.
