The poor weather over recent weeks and months has brought a number of enquiries relating to building defects causing leaks, including roofs, chimneys and windows.

Older brick chimneys are of particular interest.  Many older brick chimneys are unlikely to have lead trays and during long periods of heavy rain the brickwork becomes saturated and damp occurs internally, perhaps in places not seen before by the occupier.

Depending upon the circumstances there are several options for the remedial works, however, often the best alternative is to re-build the chimney incorporating lead trays where the masonry intersects with the roofline.
