Fire Risk Assessment Works

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 introduced a legal duty for the ‘responsible person’ in all non-domestic premises to take all reasonable steps to ensure that fire safety levels are appropriate.  The first step to achieve compliance is for a Fire Risk Assessment to be carried out to identify any areas where improvement works are required.

At numerous commercial properties our brief has been to implement these improvement works on behalf of our Client.  The works have included upgrading of the fire detection system, emergency lighting, changes to the fabric of the building (fire doors, compartmentalisation etc), improving means of escape or installation of suppression systems.  Many of the buildings are Listed and it is necessary to carefully consider how best to provide a suitable solution without damaging the historic fabric and setting of the building.  Apart from obtaining Listed Building Consent it is also necessary for some of the works to seek Planning Permission and Building Regulations Approval.
