Alterations and refurbishment of listed country house

near Melksham

2016-17

The house dates from the seventeenth century with later additions to both sides and rear.  A recent change of ownership brought the opportunity to update and refurbish the accommodation, including the re-working of some of the more recent alterations which were felt to be out of character with the rest of the house.

Detailed consultation was undertaken in conjunction with the Conservation Officer resulting in a comprehensive scheme of works that included alterations and improvements within the kitchen, morning room, sitting room, bedrooms, ensuites, bathrooms and dressing room.  A relatively modern extension housing a swimming pool with an unconverted loft space over were altered to create an informal family sitting room plus an additional bedroom with ensuite and purpose made access stair constructed in oak.  Heating, plumbing and electrical services within the house were renewed together with all decorations, finishes, appliances and fittings.

The finished result is a truly appealing family home that is handsome, comfortable and thoroughly suited to contemporary living.
